About
About CoopSizer
CoopSizer is an independent resource for people in the United States who keep, or are about to keep, a small backyard flock. It answers one question well: how big does the coop need to be, and what goes inside it?
How we work
- Every per-hen figure comes from published guidance by US university extension services, and each guide links to the page the number came from.
- When universities give different numbers, we show the range and say which value we size on. We do not pick a number from nowhere.
- When a source does not give a number, for example a pop door size, we say so instead of inventing one.
- Cost estimates are quantities multiplied by wide price ranges you can change. They are not quotes.
- We do not publish testimonials, egg counts or promises.
What CoopSizer is not
CoopSizer is not an extension service, a veterinarian, an engineer or a building inspector, and it is not affiliated with any hatchery, retailer or extension service. Local ordinances, building codes, snow and wind loads and setbacks vary. Check them before building, and talk to your county extension office for advice for your area.
What is coming
CoopSizer Plans, coop plans generated from your flock with drawings, a materials list and a cut list, is available now from $19. See the plans and what is in them. Join the list to hear when it opens. Meanwhile the calculator and the guides are free.
